Position Summary:

The best, most fun, challenging job you will ever love. As the Kitchen Manager at Camp Alice Pittenger, you are responsible for providing a variety of nutritious meals to campers and staff that are appetizing and timely, while maintaining high quality kitchen organization and standards.

Using guidance from the CDC, American Camp Association, Girl Scouts of the USA, and local health districts we are taking every precaution, including property improvements and updated sanitation procedures, to keep everyone healthy and safe. We are looking for passionate camp staff who are committed to the safety of our camp staff and girls and who can adhere to our strict health and safety protocols.  

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and serves healthy and well-rounded meals, on time, three times per day for up to 100 campers and staff.
  • Places weekly food orders receives all food and verifies quantity and quality.
  • Creates the weekly menu for each session including an alternative menu for special dietary needs.
  • Supervises all staff in the kitchen which may include the Cook, Kitchen Assistant and any camp staff supporting with serving, washing dishes or prep; assists in training kitchen staff and camp staff on their duties when in the kitchen.
  • Ensures all food preparation procedures meet or exceed all applicable heath codes.
  • Ensures the kitchen is kept clean and meets the standards of camp management and the health department.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all dishes are washed, dried, and put away properly after every meal.
  • Responsible for keeping everything in the dining room clean and in working order.
  • Ability to go without electronic devices while at camp (excluding medical necessary devices). Camp has no electricity at night.
  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with families and visitors.
  • Complete daily sanitation practices including cleaning and disinfecting surfaces.
  • Attends weekly campfire and other Girl Scout traditional activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/ Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Must have a Kitchen Manager Certification or Serve Safe certification.
  • Knowledge of and experience in food service including ordering, inventory, budgeting, food preparation, cleaning, and use of institutional kitchen equipment  
  • First Aid and CPR or higher certifications required.
  • Must feel comfortable living in a rustic camp environment with very limited access to cell phone, electricity, and internet.
  • Experience with the Girl Scout program is preferred.
  • Willing to work long hours.
  • Works well independently and asks for assistance when needed.
  • Is a dynamic leader.
