Position Summary:  

The best, most fun, challenging job you will ever love. As an overnight Unit Leader, you will nurture, interact, support, and create a safe and inclusive environment in which all counselors and campers will have a fun-filled, exciting camp experience. Live in a unit of campers with counselors and up to 24 campers, supervise all aspects of the camper’s day, lead campers through their weekly schedule and participate/teach/assist in all activities. Provide leadership and unit support. 

Responsibilities:  

  • Reside with a group of counselors and campers in unit.
  • Provide leadership, assist counselors with campers.
  • Build a team within your unit to support all counselors.
  • Serve as mentor to solve problems the arise.
  • Provide backup for counselors, coverage for breaks and time off.
  • Assist counselors, oversee a unit of up to 24 campers (ranging from ages 8 to 17) including providing activities, being a good role model and managing camper behavior.  
  • Communicate all pertinent issues to Assistant Director or Program Director.
  • Teach camp program includes Girl Scout badges, archery, outdoor cooking, fire building, low ropes, teambuilding activities, night hikes, mountain biking, overnight camping, and group games. 
  • Assist Program Staff at Arts & Crafts, STEM and Waterfront program areas by providing group management, helping set up and put away supplies and engaging campers during the lessons. 
  • Participate with campers during all camp activities, campfires, field trips and group games. 
  • Provide camper supervision during down times including meals and rest hour. 
  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with families and visitors. 
  • Assist with property upkeep including cleaning bathrooms, keeping spaces and shared materials tidy, and reporting any broken or missing supplies in a timely manner. 
  • Complete daily sanitation practices including cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. 
  • Help as needed in the kitchen with dishes, cleaning, serving meals and meal prep. 
  • Create a positive and supportive work environment. 
  • Follow all camp policies and procedures.  
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Skills/ Qualifications: 

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have graduated high school (or the equivalent.)  
  • First Aid and CPR certifications. 
  • Lifeguard Certification preferred.  
  • Must feel comfortable living in a rustic camp environment with limited access to cell phone service and internet.  
  • Must have experience working with children. 
  • Experience leading or managing peers preferred.
  • Commitment to a positive, fun and team-oriented working environment.
  • Demonstrate history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity.
  • Ability to be flexible, creative and adaptable to situations.
  • Ability to work long hours, be on call if needs arise.
  • Must be organized and able to organize others.
