Position Summary:  

As a Unit Leader, you will foster a safe, inclusive, and fun-filled camp experience for campers and counselors alike. Living in a unit alongside counselors and up to 24 campers, you will oversee all aspects of the campers' daily routine, provide breaks and support to unit counselors, and participate in, teach, and assist with camp activities. This role provides leadership and support to ensure a positive unit experience. 

Room and board are provided for the duration of employment

Responsibilities: 

  • Reside with a group of counselors and campers in the unit, as needed 

  • Provide leadership and support counselors in managing campers 

  • Build a cohesive team within the unit to support all counselors 

  • Serve as a mentor, helping to resolve issues as they arise 

  • Provide backup coverage for counselors during breaks and time off 

  • Support counselors in overseeing a unit of up to 24 campers (ages 8–17), including leading activities, modeling positive behavior, and managing camper conduct 

  • Communicate pertinent issues to the Camp Director 

  • Teach camp programming, including Girl Scout badges, archery, outdoor cooking, fire building, low ropes, team-building activities, night hikes, mountain biking, overnight camping, and group games 

  • Support Program Staff in Arts & Crafts, STEM, and Waterfront areas by assisting with group management, supply setup/breakdown, and camper engagement during lessons 

  • Participate with campers in all camp activities, campfires, field trips, and group games 

  • Supervise campers during down times, including meals and rest hour 

  • Provide excellent customer service to families and visitors 

  • Assist with property upkeep, including cleaning bathrooms, maintaining tidy shared spaces and materials, and promptly reporting broken or missing supplies 

  • Assist in the kitchen as needed, including dishes, cleaning, meal service, and meal prep 

  • Foster a positive and supportive work environment 

  • Adhere to all camp policies and procedures 

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience Requirements 

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have graduated high school or its equivalent 

  • Must be comfortable living in a rustic camp environment with limited cell phone service and internet access 

  • Experience working with children  

  • Experience leading or managing peers, preferred 

  • Committed to fostering a positive, fun, and team-oriented work environment 

  • Demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity 

  • Flexible, creative, and adaptable to changing situations 

  • Able to work long hours and be on call as needed 

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to organize others 

Certification Requirements 

  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification 

  • Idaho Food Handlers Certification
